WHAT IS THIS EVENT?

This beginners workshop is an introduction to the Native American flute. The main objective of this class will be to gain familiarity with the instrument and learn about its origins, the way it works, and its benefits. You will have time to be able to improvise some music at the end of the session as well. We will also be doing an outdoor practice.

Some of the things we will cover during the workshop are:
– Anatomy of the flute.
– Cultural context and some legends.
– Posture and breathing.
– Fingering.
– Pentatonic scale.
– Rhythm.
– Playing from the hearth & playing from the mind.
– Some basic effects.
– Types of flutes and keys.
– Care of the flute.

There will be flutes provided for the ones who do not own their own flute. There will also be flutes available for €70 for anyone who is interested in purchasing one. A flute manual with detailed information and exercises to practise will be sent to all attendees by email after the workshop.

ABOUT BELEN:

*Belen is also running a “Sound Healing Session” the previous evening, Wednesday, 25th September from 7:30-8:30pm. Find it on our calendar to reserve your spot!
Hey there! I’m Belen! Nature has always been my greatest love. My passion for nature led me to studying Biology at University and getting more involved in the environmental movement. My other passion was music, which I studied formally as a child, but only for a short time as it wasn’t the right way for me. I learned to play the recorder and the tin whistle, but when I discovered the Native American flute, I knew it was the one for me. In 2008, I attended a workshop in Madrid, my birth place, and for years after, wherever I went in the world, my flute came with me. Traveling became another big passion for me and this took me to study a MSC in Ecotourism and to create a travel business. Eventually my inner journey guided me to change professional paths and I became a sound therapist. I have also attended several courses about restoring health and wellbeing through a connection with nature and healing plants. Currently I spend the majority of my time traveling and giving flute workshops and sound therapy sessions, especially sound journeys. I am always learning and finding ways to offer my gifts to the world, with my main intention always being helping others to heal and reconnect with their true essence.
